Mock Trial: Young People Vs The Coal and Gas Industry
On the Friday evening before the Summit we will be putting the deniers and delayers to climate action on trial before the laws of the future to protect our climate
Although it is not legally possible today, coal and gas corporations may one day be made liable for their contribution to climate change. The banking and insurance industries that are protecting these corporations should stop financing their risk and recklessness before it is too late for them and the climate.
Right now a massive expansion of thermal coal mining is proposed in the Galilee Basin. If it goes ahead, it will have a huge impacts on the global climate. It will have a direct impact on the future of young people, Islander communities and farmers across Australia. This mock trial will explain what laws will be needed to prosecute the coal and gas corporations and will send a message to the finance sector to end their support for coal and gas projects.

There has been numerous mock trials pitting those currently and potentially threatened by the impacts of climate change against the fossil fuel companies and governments who are delaying action.
